New in Windows 10 build 20170

Sound settings improvements

In the announcement of the last build, Microsoft mentioned that we plan to move more of the “Control Panel” settings to the “Settings” Windows 10.

Today one more step has been taken in this direction. In build 20170, the Settings> System> Sound> Control audio devices menu has been updated. Now you can check the installed default device, enable the desired device as the default device or default communication device.

The volume mixer has also been updated to include a link to sound settings for each app.

Other improvements for insiders

The new version of Microsoft Launcher v6 is available to the general public. The newest version of the Android launcher is built on a new codebase that has brought in many useful features such as personalized news, landscape mode, customizable app icons, Bing-enabled wallpapers, and a dark theme. The launcher also received numerous performance improvements such as improved loading speed, reduced memory consumption, optimized battery usage and smoother animations.

Improved taskbar search in Windows 10 (or Windows + S). The new layout of the search results window consists of two columns and provides ease of reading, as well as easy access to Quick Search, where you can see local weather, top news and other useful information. To find other web results or go directly to a website, simply enter your query into the search box as usual. The new layout is available in markets that allow Quick Search, including the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Spain and the UK.

Changes and improvements

New icon for the “Settings” application.
Temporarily disabled the ability of Notepad to save open windows on reboots and updates.
An experimental implementation of Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 is enabled by default starting with Insider Preview Build 20170. TLS 1.3 is enabled by default in IIS / HTTP.SYS. When invoking SSPI, TLS 1.3 can be used by passing in the new crypto-flex structure SCH_CREDENTIALS when invoking AcquireCredentialsHanlde. SSPIs using TLS 1.3 must ensure that their code handles SEC_I_RENEGOTIATE correctly.
